A man from St. Louis has been arrested in Ava for possession of firearms.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Facebook page, on Feb. 18 the Multi-Jurisdictional Task Force served a high-risk search warrant west of Ava as a result of an investigation into information received about a male subject making threats and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Upon service of the warrant, 43-year-old Steven Michael Konert of St. Louis was taken into custody. Konert allegedly failed to comply with directive by deputies when he was located in a Conex box. After a brief altercation, Konert was assisted into handcuffs. A search was then conducted of the property, resulting in deputies locating two firearms.

Konert is a convicted felon, therefore prohibited from possession of firearms. He was placed on a 24-hour hold which resulted in a warrant issued for two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and a felony count of resisting arrest.

A cash only bond was set at $5,000 with condition of twice weekly drug testing, no illegal drugs and no contact with the landowner.
