The Mountain Home High School basketball teams wrapped up the regular season by getting swept at Alma, and for the boys, it marked the end of the season.

The Bombers would have advanced to the state tournament with a win. They lost to the Airedales 55-54. The game was kept fairly close with five lead changes and four ties, and the margin never went to double digits. Alma led for much of it as they only committed six turnovers. The Airedales also had a number of shots many would considered “ill-advised,” but they went in. Mountain Home had the ball in the last few seconds of the game trailing by a point, but they turned it over with 7/10 left on the clock. Alma was going to inbound it, but before they could, Carmani Smith was called for the offensive foul. The Bombers got the ball back and tried into inbound a lob pass for Braiden Dewey to catch in the air near the basket and tip it in, but the ball was knocked away by Israel Towns-Robinson, and the clock ran out on the game and Mountain Home’s season.

Dewey led the Bombers with 27 points, and Ryder McClain added 13. Camden Curd scored 17 for the Airedales.

Mountain Home wraps up the year at 16-14 on the season and 7-7 in the 5A-West. Alma ends up 7-21 and 4-10.

Even though the Lady Bombers’ season will continue, their night wasn’t any better as they were edged out by the Lady Airedales 45-44 in overtime. It was not a pretty game for either side as both teams had several turnovers, and there were several missed shots. Mountain Home ended up outrebounding Alma 41-32. The Lady Bombers had a two-point lead toward the end of regulation when Jordan Gramlich got the ball on the low block, spun away from her defender and hit a layup to tie the game up. That would force overtime. In the extra period, free throws were the difference. Mountain Home missed the front end of three one-and-one opportunities. With a few seconds left, Jaden Gramlich got an offensive rebound and was fouled on the putback attempt. She hit one of two free throws, but that was enough to give the Lady Airedales the win.

The Lady Bombers were led by Laykin Moore with 13 points, and Amelia Rucker chipped in 11. Presli Taylor had 15 points for Alma, and Jordan Gramlich provided 14.

The Lady Airedales finish the year at 7-19 overall and 3-11 in the league. Mountain Home falls to 16-14 and 7-7. The Lady Bombers will head to Pine Bluff on Tuesday to meet West Memphis in the opening round of the Class 5A State Tournament.
