A Mountain Home man accused of shooting his uncle pled guilty to a charge of domestic battery in the second degree and was sentenced to 10 years in prison during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Monday.
Twenty-three-year-old Alex Jordan Jeschke was arrested in late August 2021. Mountain Home police responded to a residence on McClure after a male called the department and reported his uncle had been shot inside a residence at that address.
The man terminated the call at that point.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a male victim on the bathroom floor who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. No one else was found in the residence.
As EMTs were treating the victim, he is reported to have said, “Alex did ……” before becoming unresponsive. The victim was then transported to Baxter Health.
As officers were securing the scene, a female arrived and told the officers she lived in the residence with the victim and her son, identified as Jeschke.
Officers took the woman to Baxter Health to check on the victim. While at the hospital, officers reported the woman got a telephone call from her daughter and Jeschke’s sister. The sister reported Jeschke had come to her apartment and, after a brief conversation, told her, “I shot Uncle Bobby.”
Jeschke took the keys to his sister’s vehicle and drove away. He was arrested in Bakersfield without incident.
The defendant has been through psychological examinations to determine his fitness to participate in his case and if he can be held criminally responsible for his actions. As is usual in Arkansas, it took a number of months to complete the process and get the report back to the court. The report is not filed publicly, but if the case continues, it can be assumed Jeschke was found competent.
Jeschke has been locked up in the Baxter County Detention Center since his initial arrest August 26, 2021, with bond set at $500,000.
