Area native gets promotion from Missouri State Highway Patrol

An area native is receiving a promotion by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Sergeant Garrett J. Loring, formerly of West Plains will be promoted to lieutenant and designated assistant director of the Division of Drug and Crime Control’s general headquarters in Jefferson City.

Loring began his time in the Division of Drug and Crime Control in September 2017 as a criminal investigator. He became a criminal investigator supervisor in July 2021.

Loring graduated from West Plains High School in 2002. Two years later, he received an associate of arts degree from Missouri State University.

Loring was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol as a member of the 86th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Academy in July 2007, he was assigned to Troop C, Zone 2, in North St. Louis County. In April 2009, he transferred to Troop G, Zone 3, in Northern Howell and Shannon counties. He was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone supervisor of Zone 3 in 2013. Loring was promoted to sergeant and designated zone supervisor of Troop G, Zone 1 in Wright County nearly three years later.

Loring’s promotion will go into effect Wednesday.
