Norfork girls among area teams winning in state quarterfinals

A few area high school basketball teams in Arkansas played their state quarterfinal games on Friday.

The Class 1A State Tournament wrapped up its second round with three area girls’ teams in action.
Norfork is one win away from its third straight appearance in the title game after pulling away in the second half to beat Dermott 64-40. Keely Blanchard led the Lady Panthers with 29 points and 13 rebounds, and Liza Shaddy and Kiley Alman added 13 points each. Norfork improves to 31-7 on the season.
The Lady Panthers’ semifinal opponent will be 1A-2 conference foe Rural Special. The Lady Rebels eliminated Jasper by a final of 66-56.

Three area teams played their quarterfinal games in the Class 3A State Tournament at Lamar.
Salem’s girls put the mercy rule in effect before destroying Fouke 67-41. The Lady Greyhounds were led by Marleigh Sellars with 19 points, and Chelsea Hamilton chipped in 16.
The Bergman girls took another step toward successfully defending their state championship from a year ago as they topped Harding Academy 65-53. Maddi Holt was the Lady Panthers’ top scorer with 29 points, and Ruby Trammell had 20.
Bergman also advanced to the semifinals on the boys’ side as they defeated Riverview 67-43. Walker Patton paced the Panthers with 28 points, Kaden Ponder scored 15, and Dylan Friend provided 13.

Marshall’s boys are one win away from punching their ticket to Bank OZK Arena in Hot Springs. The Bobcats moved on to the semifinals of the Class 2A State Tournament at Rector after pounding East Poinsett County 73-46.

The Harrison boys are also a win away from playing for a state championship. In the Class 5A State Tournament at Pine Bluff, the Goblins squeaked by Hot Springs 58-56.

In Missouri, Hollister’s boys fell one win short of a state tournament berth. The Tigers hosted the championship game of the Class 4, District 11 Tournament and fell to Logan-Rogersville 53-40. Hollister’s season ends at 22-5.

The Branson boys were eliminated from the Class 5, District 6 Tournament at Willard. The Pirates lost to Springfield Hillcrest 54-37. Branson’s final record is 6-22.
