More details have been released about a murder that occurred in late January in Stone County, including the victim’s name. Authorities say Leslie Jo Mixon of rural Mountain View was killed when her husband allegedly shot her Jan. 30. The suspect, 50-year-old Fred Michael Mixon, is being held in the Stone County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond.

According to the probable cause statement in the case, Stone County deputies were notified by Faulkner County authorities about a murder that happened in Stone County on Jensen Road, southeast of Mountain View. Fred Mixon had called Faulkner County Sheriff Tim Ryals at home to report he had shot and killed his wife. Mixon said he would only surrender to Sheriff Ryals.

Once the Faulkner County sheriff arrived, he negotiated Mixon’s surrender. When deputies searched the property, they found Leslie Mixon’s body in a shop building with a shotgun wound to the face. Also located in the shop was a 12-gauge shotgun with a spent shell casing in the barrel.

During an interview with law enforcement, Fred Mixon says he “broke” when his wife “laughed in my face.” He says he called Sheriff Ryals because he wanted to turn himself in to someone he knew.

Following an autopsy at the Arkansas State Crime Lab, it was determined Leslie Mixon died from the shotgun blast and the death was ruled a homicide.

Fred Mixon is charged with murder in the first degree, a class Y felony, the most serious crime in Arkansas not punishable by the death penalty.
