MHPD recognizes outstanding staff during Awards Luncheon Friday

Friday afternoon, the Mountain Home Police Department recognized officers and civilian workers in during their Awards Luncheon held at Big Creek Country Club.

The department recognized Mountain Home High School student Gracie Cakora as a guest of honor. Her design was chosen for the new truck the School Resource Officers use.

Office Manager Cathy Canta and Sergeant Robert McCoy were honored for their 20 years of service.

Patrol Officer Emil Iverson was recognized for the Honorable Service Award when he responded to a call last December at Guy Berry College and Career Academy in support of a male juvenile who was on probation and fled the school. The juvenile was found on the roof of the school hiding, where he refused all commands to come down. At the time of the incident, the metal roof and wet due to the rain. Iverson climbed on the roof, made his way to the juvenile, where he continued to be combative with Iverson. He was able to lower the juvenile near the shorter edge of the roof to assisting officers. Iverson’s actions prevented the juvenile from hurting himself and preventing a possible tragic situation.

The Civilian of the Year award was presented to Communications Sergeant John Helms for his professional aptitude, self motivation, and how he works closely between the public and police officers. Lieutenant Mike Day stated, “he supervises his employees in a fair and gracious manner and goes above and beyond the call of duty by showing great care for those on both sides of the phone and radio.”

Part-time Officer of the Year was presented to Patrolman First Class Josh Evans where he has shown many years of dedication to the department in many different roles. He has worked many hours, shifts and coverage of specials events day and night all while raising a young family and running a business.

Officer of the Year honors went to Patrolman First Class Danielle Campfield, School Resource Officer at Pinkston Middle School. Day states she is “a shining example of selfless service. This officer works hard not only for the Mountain Home Police Department and the City of Mountain Home, but also for our wonderful community, students and staff of the Mountain Home Public Schools.”

Campfield stated she felt “very blessed not only to receive it, but to be nominated by my co-workers.”
