Two area high school basketball teams were featured in the last state championship games of the weekend for Class 3A.
Salem’s girls pulled away in the second half and scored 23 points off of 15 turnovers to defeat Lamar 56-36 Saturday in Hot Springs. Chelsea Hamilton led the Lady Greyhounds with 20 points, Madeline Keen scored 16, and Marleigh Sellars, the game’s most valuable player, added 13. Karley Williams had 11 points for the Lady Warriors, and Madison Davidson grabbed 11 rebounds. Salem finishes the year at 30-4, and Lamar falls to 29-5.
The boys’ game needed overtime to decide a winner, but Bergman came up short as they lost to Manila 61-57. The Panthers were led by Dylan Friend with 28 points, and Walker Patton finished with 15. Brayden Nunnally was named the MVP as he led the Lions with 22 points, and Jaron Burrow ended up with 20. Bergman drops to 38-6 to end the year, and Manila improves to 31-5.
