One of the biggest events for fly-fishing enthusiasts returns to the Twin Lakes Area this coming week. The North Arkansas Fly Fishers will host the 26th-annual Sowbug Roundup Thursday through Saturday from 9 to 4 at the Baxter County Fairgrounds.
Mike Tipton and Tommy Hagan of the North Arkansas Fly Fishers were recent guests of the Talk of the Town on KTLO-FM. Tipton gave the definition of a sowbug for those unfamiliar with fly fishing.

The theme for this year’s event is “Fly Fishing Travel is Fun.” The show boasts 150 expert fly tyers, over 20 vendors, new auctions and raffles, free seminars, free fly-tying classes and free casting lessons.
Hagan says the Sowbug Roundup is a fun event not just for the adults, but the younger generations are also getting more involved.

The entry fee is $10 for all three days, but if an adult is accompanied by a child ages 11-and-under, they are admitted free. The Sowbug Roundup is the sole fundraiser of the North Arkansas Fly Fishers, and it provides the finances for conservation, education and philanthropic activities. The first $10,000 of the show’s proceeds goes toward scholarships for students majoring in conservation and/or fisheries careers.
