The Mountain Home junior varsity softball team was able to sweep a pair of five-inning games over Marshall on Monday.
The J.V. Lady Bombers picked up the 3-2 win in the opener. Emma King recorded eight strikeouts in the circle. Kinley Puckett led the Mountain Home offense by going 2-for-2; Daelyn Harper and Aspen Vostatek were each 1-for-2 with an RBI; and Laken Anderson and Amelia Mason each went 1-for-2.
Mountain Home later won the nightcap 8-2 over Marshall. King had another eight strikeouts in the contest. Rylee Morris was 2-for-3 in the game, and Libby Dewey went 1-for-3.
On the varsity level, Izard County’s softball team was able to dominate White County Central 9-5. Megan McBride was credited with the victory as she pitched a complete game, struck out 11 batters and gave up four hits and one earned run. Makensie Yancey led the Lady Cougars with three hits, a run and an RBI; Tinley Bailey had three hits; Julia Setzer provided a triple and drove in three runs; Hollie Johnson finished with a hit, two runs and two RBIs; Abbie Gilbert added a double and drove in a run; Katie Orf and Quinn Johnson each had a hit and scored a run; and McBride scored twice.
Elsewhere, Norfork fell to Calico Rock 17-0, Viola doubled up Concord 4-2, Salem routed Newport 12-2, Melbourne shut out Mountain View 5-0, and Lead Hill lost to Jasper 15-0.
Izard County’s baseball team invoked the mercy rule in the sixth inning as they routed White County Central 12-2. Porter Burton was the winning pitcher with 3 2/3 innings, five strikeouts, two hits and two earned runs. The Cougars were led by Gavin Stephens with two doubles, a run and four RBIs; Wyatt Buchanan provided a hit, scored a run and drove in three more; Kasen Black and Burton each added a hit, a run and an RBI; Garrett Roberts scored four runs; and Xander McCandlis scored two runs and drove in another.
In other baseball action, Mammoth Spring fell to Marked Tree 16-1, and Bergman lost a doubleheader to West Fork 19-4 and 17-0.
