The Flippin City Jail, built in 1928, has been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The jail is one of three properties from Arkansas added to the register this year. The others include a gas station in Fordyce and college dormitories in Magnolia.

According to the nomination, the Flippin City Jail is a one-story reinforced-concrete building which sits at the southwest corner of Park Street and South 2nd Street. The sign above the entrance reads “Old Flippin City Jail / Circa 1928.” The jail contains a single cell with concrete floor, walls and ceiling. The building is 9×12 feet and served as the town jail until the 1960s when inmates were then sent to the Marion County Jail in Yellville.

The nomination notes “The jail has suffered no alterations since its construction circa 1928.” It also says “the only changes to the building that have occurred is the installation of the sign on the east facade and the inclusion of a replica bed, ‘prisoner’ dummy, and desk to form a sort of interpretation exhibit inside the jail.”
