The Donald W. Reynolds Library Serving Baxter County is celebrating National Library Week from April 24-29th by encouraging community members to visit the library and discover all the resources and services available to them. The library offers a wide range of programs, classes, and resources both in-person and online, including digital magazines, eBooks, audiobooks, videos, and 3D science models.
During National Library Week only, patrons of the library can donate food items to the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas in exchange for forgiveness of library fines. The most needed items include canned meats, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, canned vegetables and fruits, beans, soups, stews, and chili. For every three items donated, patrons can receive up to $5 in fine forgiveness, with a total of up to $50 in fines forgiven.
National Library Week highlights the essential role that libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. This year’s theme is “There’s More to the Story,” emphasizing that libraries offer much more than just books. Libraries also lend items like musical instruments and tools, and provide programming for entertainment, education, and connection. Libraries also offer internet and technology access, literacy skills, and other infrastructure to advance communities.
The public is encouraged to show their support for libraries during National Library Week by visiting their library in person or online, following them on social media, and using the hashtag #NationalLibraryWeek.
