Following a high speed pursuit in Baxter County, 42-year-old Louis Nunez was arrested on a number of charges.

The probable cause affidavit states on March 28, a Baxter County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a Ford Ranger matching the description of a recent stolen vehicle report traveling on the Highway 62 Bypass. A traffic stop was initiated, but Nunez refused to stop.

The deputy reports the vehicle continued westbound on the bypass at speeds ranging from 50 to 80 miles per hour and was traveling in and out of vehicles in a reckless manner. The vehicle then exited the bypass onto the State Highway 5 South exit, and turned north onto 9th street into the Mountain Home City limits at speeds ranging from 50 to 60 miles per hour. The vehicle then made a right turn onto Cardinal Street and then turned east onto 1st Street. The deputy reported the vehicle continued driving eastbound on 1st street at a high rate of speed and swerving all over the roadway.
The chase continued until reaching a dead end on Forest Drive, where deputies then approached the vehicle at gun point, giving the driver verbal commands to show his hands and exit the vehicle.
Officials state the driver kept his hands up but would not exit the vehicle. Deputies then approached the driver’s side of the vehicle, observed the window was slightly opened and proceeded to break the window to remove Nunez and place him under arrest.
Nunez was reportedly recognized from previous incidents.
On March 29th, deputies made contact with the complainant from the original stolen vehicle report, she advised the keys should not have been in the vehicle and was unaware of how Nunez would have obtained a key due to the owner of the vehicle being deceased and the vehicle being locked.
Nunez was charged with felony counts of theft by receiving and fleeing. He was also charged with resisting arrest, reckless driving, failure to use a turn signal, no insurance, disregarding stop signs and no seatbelt.
Bond for Nunez was set at $20,000.
