The Yellville-Summit High School girls’ track team finished the season Tuesday with its third consecutive state championship. The Lady Panthers dominated the Class 2A State Meet at Quitman, finishing 65 1/2 points ahead of the runners-up from Mansfield.
Individually for Yellville-Summit, Kambree Gibson won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes and the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles and was second in the long jump and the triple jump, K.J. Moore won the 400-meter dash and the high jump, Fay Chism won the pole vault and ended up third in the 800-meter run, Riley Hopson took second place in the 1600-meter run, and Elle Lee finished third in the discus. The team of Chism, Moore, Hopson and Bailey Ervin won the 4×800-meter relay; and Abby Methvin, Moore, Chism and Ervin won the 4×400-meter relay.
On the boys’ side, the championship trophy will be staying on the campus at Quitman. Yellville-Summit was 25th, Marshall ended up 26th, Izard County was tied for 27th, and Cotter ended up tied for 34th place. Marshall’s Toby Campbell had the top individual performance from the area as he took third place in the shot put.
