The Mountain Home High School recently received a $2,000 donation from the National Rifle Association for the Mountain Home Navy National Defense Cadet Corp (NNDCC) program. The donation supplied two state of the art Sporter class Marksmanship rifles.

According to NJROTC Chief Jason Williams, the Crosman Challenger Rifles arrived April 28th and added to a donation from White River Firearms, LCC earlier this year. Previously the cadets had been firing Daisy 853s pump action air rifles the unit first established with in 1993. While the unit was defunded due to low enrollment in 2011, the Marksmanship program missed several, Navy Funded Marksmanship program upgrades including rifle and target scoring system.

In addition to the two rifle, the National Rifle Association purchased a year’s worth of lead free pellets for the unity to practice and compete with.

The Marksmanship program currently competes nationwide with other JROTC units and youth shooting clubs in 10 meter 3 position and 10 meter 60 shot standing competition. Targets are shot, electronically scanned, and scored before being sent to the hosting unit. The program teaches cadets precision, patience and control, while providing a safe competition environment for the cadets to compete in.

Currently the Mountain home NJROTC team is 2nd in the NJROTC Elite Division, and 10th overall, out of 45 teams in the Orion Elite League and is currently preparing for next year’s competition season.
