Two Baxter County residents have been charged with breaking or entering and criminal mischief after they allegedly broke into a storage unit not belonging to them.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on the property of Best Way Storage. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the owner who resides at the business. He reported he observed a vehicle parked behind the storage unite and believed the people inside the car were still on the property.

Deputies began searching units which did not have lock on them and a short time later they had located two individuals later identified as 41-year-old Natasha Gilbert and 43-year-old William McCormick. When approached, deputies observed McCormack standing near the door and Gilbert hunched over in the back of an empty unit. Gilbert stated she had permission from the renter to be in the unit and was given a key which unlocks the unit. She also stated she wasn’t supposed to be in the unit without the renter present.

The renters were contacted by authorities and stated they did not give anyone permission to be in their storage unit and did not know Gilbert or McCormick. The victims arrived on the scene and confirmed all of their belongings were still inside the unit.

Both Gilbert and McCormick were released from the Baxter County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
