With standing room only, the Mountain Home Public Schools Board of Education approved the amended proposal from the Personnel Policy Committee (PPC) for teacher salaries in 2023-24 in a special session Wednesday night.

Madison Ingle, PPC Chair, stated the amended proposal would ensure it was equitable as possible, while fairly compensating teachers. The schedule would meet the needs of the LEARNS Act while still recognizing teacher’s experience and encouraging additional education which would be beneficial to the students.

In addition, the Board heard a proposal for adjustments to the Classified Salary Schedule. The proposal was brought to the Classified Personnel Policy Committee (CPPC) by the District’s finance team to review based on projected revenue coming into the district. Chairman for the CPPC, Steve Mendleski stated the committee decided to wait to see what would happen with the Certified Salary Schedule before they offered changes to the classified side.

Mendleski stated they did want to give the paraprofessionals a bump with the teachers, which prompted the other salary scales to be reviewed. Some of the schedules resulted in a 5%, 10% and 15% increase while 1% increases occurred in most of the other positions such as maintenance, food service, transportation and technology. While changes were made, both sides agreed there is still work to be done.

After discussion, the Board unanimously approved both salary schedules for the 2023-24 school year.

Before the Board voted on the salary schedules, Dr. Jake Long shared how the projected revenue and salary schedules for 2023-24 would compare.

In total, the District is projected to receive a total of $2,870,120, including the $1.5 million from the state to implement the LEARNS Act. With the total salary increases costing approximately $2.184 million, it would leave some funds to be allotted to building needs.
