An Ava man has been arrested after hiding a gun behind a shrub while he was intoxicated.
A release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department states authorities responded to a call of a domestic assault on May 9. Upon arrival they identified the suspect as 37-year-old Steven Adams, and while walking to the house they noticed Adams approaching them on the driveway. Once authorities acknowledged Adams he allegedly changed his direction of travel and walked behind a large, overgrown, shrub and obscured the deputies line of sight.
Officials believed they observed a handgun in Adams’ right hand, but once he presented himself he appeared to be holding cell phones.
Adams was detained and deputies conducted a search around the shrub in which they located the handgun Adams appeared to have been holding.
Adams was transported to the Douglas County Jail on a 24-hour hold. He provided a chemical test of his breath which possessed a blood alcohol content of .121. Authorities noted Adams was a convicted felon at the time of the arrest.
On May 10, the Douglas County Circuit Court issued a warrant for Adams’ arrest and charged him with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful use of a loaded weapon while intoxicated.
Adams is currently in custody at the Douglas County Jail with a cash only bond set at $5,000 including additional charges of CPS supervision with no alcohol consumption and testing for the presence of alcohol twice weekly; no contact with the victim; no visiting the property of the victim; no firearms or ammunition; and house arrest unless there is verifiable employment.
