An area man was killed when his pickup truck collided with a trailer that became detached from another truck Thursday afternoon in Douglas County. Twenty-five-year-old Mason Morpeth of Thornfield was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the truck driven by 52-year-old Scottie Plumb of Ava was pulling the trailer on Missouri Highway 14, and it became detached nearly 11 miles east of Ava. The trailer crossed the center line and struck Morpeth’s driver door. Morpeth was reportedly not wearing a seat belt. Plumb was not injured, and his truck had no damage.

Morpeth’s truck had extensive damage in the 1:30 p.m. accident.
