A Fulton County man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly breaking into a school in Melbourne.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the Izard County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of someone breaking out windows at Bearkatz Academy. The complainant described the suspect as a male wearing a white shirt and white shorts.
Upon arrival deputies observed a window screen lying on the ground and a bottle of whiskey near the screenless window. Deputies noted the window was open and several lights inside the building had been turned on. Authorities entered the building through the window in an attempt to clear and secure the building. While the search was being conducted, it was reported the deputies heard a noise coming from down the hallway.
They proceeded down the hallway where they then witnessed a man matching the caller’s description. The man, identified as 22-year-old Clayton Orr, walked around the corner holding several items, including property belonging to the school. When deputies confronted Orr, he dropped the items and ran out the door. Following a foot pursuit, Orr was located in the rear passenger seat of an SUV parked near the scene. Deputies secured Orr and in the process noticed a strong odor of intoxicants.
Orr was then transported to the Izard County Sheriff’s Office and investigators returned to the scene.
Further investigation found Orr had allegedly placed a laptop near the exit door, and identified the other items Orr was holding as a DVR valued at $2,200 and food items Orr allegedly took from offices in the building.
Video footage provided to authorities showed Orr carrying a variety of items and entering different office areas throughout the building.
Orr is facing felony charges of commercial burglary and theft of property, along with misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, fleeing and public intoxication.
He is currently being held in the Izard County Detention Center on $10,000 bond.
