A West Plains man is accused of driving across and causing damage to a golf course in the city and to West Plains High School. Nineteen-year-old Xane Norton was arrested Sunday for first-degree property damage.

According to the West Plains Police Department, a pickup truck was seen just after 7 Sunday morning on the West Plains Municipal Golf Course. The truck reportedly conducted “donuts” on one of the greens. Damage to the course was estimated at $20,000.

Nearly 2 1/2 hours later, another caller reported the same truck was creating skid marks in the high school parking lot. Several large marks were reportedly located on the scene, and tread imprints matched the marks from the golf course.

The truck was eventually spotted on Abe Taylor Street without a license plate. After a traffic stop was conducted, the truck was discovered to have no proof of registration or insurance. The driver, identified as Norton, was taken into custody.

Further charges are being sought for property damage, driving while intoxicated, minor in possession of alcohol, failure to show proof of insurance and failure to register a motor vehicle.
