During Thursday night’s city council meeting, the city of Mountain Home entered into an economic development partnership with the North Central Arkansas Chamber Foundation at a cost of $40,000, but the vote was not unanimous. Susan Stockton and Paige Evans were the two members of the council voting “No” on the proposal.
Evans tells KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News her understanding of the partnership’s purpose.
Listen:
Stockton says while she opposed the overall proposal, there were aspects of the partnership she was in favor of.
Listen:
The proposal aims to establish a board comprised of chamber representatives, volunteers and business leaders. However, some of the of the positions require an undetermined payment amount to be a part of the board, and Stockton says that was another of her concerns.
Listen:
Evans adds her opposition to the proposal is in no way a reflection of her view of the chamber and the work they do.
Listen:
The chamber foundation will be presenting a similar proposal to the Baxter County Quorum Court during its regular session Tuesday evening at 6. The court will not be able to vote on it during this meeting.
