A Norfork man is in the Baxter County Detention Center on accusations of assaulting a female in a vehicle with two children inside. Thirty-eight-year-old Zachariah Martin is facing a felony count of third-degree domestic battery, two felony counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and a misdemeanor count of first-degree interference with emergency communication.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a Baxter County deputy responded June 29 to a residence on Lone Rock Drive for a domestic disturbance and met with a female and two children. The female stated Martin became agitated and agressive as she was operating the vehicle and began striking her face. She reportedly stopped at a neighbor’s residence to have a witness to the attack, and Martin allegedly continued the attack while she was attempting to video the incident.

The victim told authorities she attempted to exit the vehicle and walk home. Martin allegedly grabbed her from behind and put her in a choke hold.

Photos taken of the female reportedly show redness to her right cheek, forehead and neck and bruising on the chin and left jaw. In addition, statements from the children corroborate her account.

Martin was serving four years probation after pleading guilty to charges of aggravated assault on a family or household member and two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor in 2020. He had reportedly been chasing his wife with a rifle and shooting it in the air with their children present during an incident in September 2019.

Bond for Martin is set at $7,500.
