The latest unemployment numbers from the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services and the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center show May’s unemployment rates in most counties in north central Arkansas and southern Missouri have either increased or remained unchanged from April.
In Baxter County, the rate remained the same from the previous month at 2.7%. Baxter County’s rate is tied for the 35th lowest out of Arkansas’ 75 counties. There are 445 unemployed Baxter County residents out of a work force of 16,152.
Marion County’s rate declined from 2.7% in April to 2.9% in May, ranking it as tied for the 39th lowest in the state. Marion County has 181 residents out of work from a work force of 6,054.
Fulton County’s unemployment rate remains unchanged from April to May at 2.9%, which means they are tied for the 35th lowest rate in the state. Fulton County has a labor force of 4,904 and 135 unemployed.
The unemployment rate in Izard County rose from 3.6% in April to 3.9% in May which is tied for number 68 in Arkansas. There are 175 Izard County residents unemployed out of a work force of 4,282.
In Stone County, the rate remains the same from the previous month at 3.2%. That ranks Stone County tied for 55th out of 75 counties. There are 4,352 in the labor force in Stone County with 144 unemployed.
Searcy County’s unemployment rate held steady from April to May at 3.3%, ranking them tied for 58th in Arkansas. There are 96 people unemployed in Searcy County out of a work force of 2,790.
Boone County is the only area county seeing a decrease from 2.4% in April to 2.3% in May, putting them in a tie for the 12th lowest rate in the state. Boone County has a work force of 15,659 with 373 out of work.
Newton County is tied for the state’s 15th lowest unemployment rate at 2.4%, unchanged from last month. Newton County has a labor force of 3,135 with 78 of those unemployed.
Arkansas’s unemployed rate in March was 2.7%, down from 2.8% the previous month.
In southern Missouri, Ozark County’s rate stands at 3.8%, up from 3.3% in April. Ozark County has 132 unemployed out of a work force of 3,495.
Douglas County saw its rate go from 2.6% in April to 3.1% in May. In Douglas County, the labor force is 5,293, and there are 166 out of work.
Howell County had a increase, going from 3% to 3.5% in May. Howell County has work force of 16,198 with 568 unemployed.
Taney County’s rate rose from 3.4% in April to 3.5% in May. There are 938 unemployed in Taney County out of a labor force of 26,677.
Missouri’s rate increased from 2.4% in April to 2.9% in May.
