An eight-year-old child was the victim of a drowning Saturday evening in northeast Arkansas. The report from KAIT-TV states the body of Layton Boyster was pulled from the St. Francis River in Clay County just before 8:30.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Boyster went swimming with friends in an area known as Cottonwood Point at St. Francis. The sheriff’s office received a call just after 4 Saturday afternoon stating Boyster had gone underwater and did not come back up.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Dunklin County, Missouri, Sheriff’s Office, Arkansas Game and Fish officers, Missouri Department of Conservation officers, the Arkansas State Police, the Clay County Emergency Task Force and the Clay County Coroner.

Boyster was a student at Piggott Elementary School. The school said in a statement, “It is with heavy hearts that we report that we have lost a young Mohawk tonight. Please keep the Boyster family of St. Francis in your thoughts and prayers as they lost their beloved son, Layton. Layton would have been a third-grade student at Piggott Elementary.”
