The Mountain Home City Council met in regular session Thursday night with a light agenda.

During the announcements, the Council heard a presentation from Kendrick Ketchum from Waste Connections about a new bulky and yard waste procedure. In addition to the bulk pickups twice a year, Mountain Home residents can now call for a weekly pickup of bulk items. Each item will cost $5.00 to pick up and must pre-pay before the items are collected. Residents should call 870-421-9704 by Thursday at noon for pick up on Friday. According to Waste Connections, anything scheduled after Noon on Thursday will be scheduled for the following Friday. Customers may pay the fee via credit or debit card by phone or drop a check off at the office in Gassville. Cash will not be accepted.

The bulk item list includes furniture, mattresses and box springs, non-freon-containing appliances, toys, tools, bicycles without tires, push or self-propelled lawnmowers, clothes, metal, carpet, fencing and lumber.

Accepted yard waste includes bagged grass clippings, bagged leaves and small limbs tied and bundled. Currently, Waste Connections charges $1.00 per yard waste item, but they are looking into solutions for no cost in the future.

Mayor Hillrey Adams shared Lynn Anderson is stepping down from the Planning Commission after 16 years. Adams nominated Emily Floyd from North Arkansas Electric Cooperative to take Anderson’s place beginning Aug. 14. The Council approved the appointment unanimously.

Adams also announced the City should have 100% construction drawings for the new aquatic center by early next week. He states if everything passes the final checks, they hope to open bidding by the end of the week.

In regular business, the Council approved a resolution to move $500,000 from the Arkansas Highway 5 South water and sewer line project to the County Road 390 force main project as the line requires replacement. The Council also approved to create a checking account for this project.

The Council approved a request from the Mountain Home Police Department to open a checking account so they may sell items online rather than at auction. The account would only be used to transfer funds from the sale of an item to the appropriate accounts.

An ordinance was approved to amend the contracted water rates between the City of Mountain Home and wholesale purchasers. The increase would range from .27 cents per 1000 gallons to .33 cents per 1000 gallons.

The Council’s next meeting was moved to August 24 as a few members will not be in attendance.
