A couple from central Arkansas has been arrested after fleeing from a Mountain Home Police officer during a traffic stop. The incident leading to the arrests of 31-year-old Michael Toombs and 42-year-old Victoria Nicolette Toombs, both of Bigelow, happened late Monday night.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the officer initiated the stop because the couple’s vehicle had an expired temporary tag. The vehicle stopped at a business on West 6th Street and both occupants started to exit the car. The officer ordered them back in the vehicle, the complied, but then they sped off in a reckless manner.
As the vehicle traveled south on Circle Drive on the wrong side of the road at a high rate of speed, another officer responding to the scene was forced to drive off the road to avoid a head-on collision.
The vehicle pulled into a driveway on Circle Drive and both Toombs exited the car and ran behind the residence. One of the officers was able to apprehend Victoria Toombs near the house. Michael Toombs was taken into custody later in a heavily wooded area.
Michael Toombs is facing felony charges of aggravated assault and fleeing along with misdemeanor charges of fleeing on foot, reckless driving and failure to register a vehicle.
He has a lengthy criminal record, mostly in Garland County. His previous charges include multiple counts of theft, fleeing and drug charges. At the time of his arrest, he had a felony absconder warrant with the Arkansas Parole Board.
His bond is set at $10,000.
Victoria Toombs is facing misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and fleeing. She is free after posting bond of $760.
