All turbines at Norfork Dam have been inoperable for a while, and that is expected to continue for a few more months. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have a rehabilitation projects in progress, but some extra work has been caused by an incident at the dam in June.
Corps Operations Project Manager Mark Case says the rehab project mainly consists of updating each unit inside the dam.

The Corps is projecting to have Unit 2, which was shut down by the blown transformer, running again in November. After that, the work to update Unit 1 will continue for an estimated time period of a year-and-a-half. Unit 1 will then be turned on, and maintenance on Unit 2 will begin.
At different times, water will be released from the dam at an equivalent of one unit of generation. Case says the Corps has to manage the waters at the dam for a variety of reasons.

Case adds this project will result in lane closures on top of the dam throughout the month of September.
