A Clarkridge man was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to having possession of a stolen motorcycle.
Thirty-four-year-old Joshua Craig Thompson was on probation at the time he was charged with having the stolen motorcycle.
He was put on probation for three years in early August last year after pleading guilty to drug charges.
The probation was revoked during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Monday and he was resentenced to the prison term.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the motorcycle was reported to have been stolen out of a storage locker located along County Road 28 in late November last year.
The stolen bike was described as a red and black Kawasaki Ninja ZX600 valued at $5,000.
On April 30, a Baxter County deputy sheriff spotted a motorcycle resembling the one described in a Be On The Look Out(BOLO)issued when the theft was reported.
After seeing the motorcycle had no license plate, a traffic stop was initiated on the Shed-Hopper Bypass near the intersection with Buzzard Roost Road.
Thompson was identified as the driver. Because he was on probation at the time, he had signed a search waiver permitting warrantless searches of his person and property.
The deputy reported finding drugs in a backpack and by checking on VIN numbers, determined the motorcycle was the one reported stolen from the storage locker.
Thompson went through a tangled process of trying to prove how he had come into possession of the Kawasaki, but, in the end, the stories did not prove out.
He was arrested and charged with theft by receiving and possession of a controlled substance.
