Early morning house fire in Gassville causes significant damage; possibly caused by lightning strike

On Friday in the early morning hours, the Gassville Fire Department along with four others responded to a report of smoke coming from the roof of house.

At approximately 12:50 in the morning, firefighters were dispatched to a residence along U.S. Highway 62/412 West. Upon arrival, authorities observed a substantial hole and smoke coming from the roof. Forty-five firefighters from Gassville, Cotter, Mountain Home, Cotter/Gassville Rural and Midway Fire Departments fought the blaze for four and a half hours.

The roof sustained 100% damage with approximately 50% of the homes contents damaged.

Gassville Fire Chief Michael Glotzl states they suspect the fire began when the home was struck by lightning, but the incident is still under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
