A 1964 graduate of Mountain Home High School will be among the inductees into the MHHS Athletic Hall of Honor. Dick House will be enshrined Saturday for his accomplishments on the baseball and football fields.
House and his family moved to Mountain Home from Illinois in 1961, and he says his time as a Bomber was special to him.
Listen:
House immediately turned heads on the diamond when he came to Mountain Home. Teammate and friend Gaylen Pitts says House was one of the best catchers in Arkansas and was selected as the most valuable player.
Pitts also says on the gridiron, House was a “tough-as-nails” linebacker and a split end with great hands to catch anything coming near him. House says one of his best memories as a member of the high school football team was the fact that his teams did not lose to Harrison.
Listen:
Following graduation, House and Pitts were both called up to the St. Louis Cardinals organization, but some old football injuries and a shoulder surgery cut House’s professional career short. He returned to the Twin Lakes Area to raise his family, and he’s currently the longest-serving local realtor with a career lasting over 50 years.
House is married to his wife Lisa, a 1986 Mountain Home graduate and the current president of the Mountain Home School Board. He also has two older sons – Trey and Garrett – and three sons with Lisa – Nicholas, Matthew and Michael. Each of his sons were also decorated Bomber athletes.
Listen:
House will be honored during the MHHS Athletic Hall of Honor Banquet Saturday in the high school cafeteria. The reception begins at noon, and the banquet and lunch will be an hour later. For tickets, contact the Mountain Home athletic office at 870-425-1285.
