This year marks the 70th anniversary of KTLO-AM first hitting the airwaves. The organization that has since grown into four stations, KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot, will be celebrating this milestone by inviting the public to an anniversary party Nov. 7 from 10 to 2 at the Vada Sheid Community Development Center on the campus of Arkansas State University-Mountain Home.
KTLO-AM went on the air in 1953. KTLO-FM was later established and began broadcasting in 1971. In 1973, KTLO was purchased by the late Bob and Sue Knight and Drs. Johnny and Bobby Ahrens. In 1994, current co-owner Danny Ward and his wife, Velma, became partners, along with Charlie and Scottie Earls to form Mountain Lakes Broadcasting Corporation.
In the late 1990s, the organization purchased KCTT and moved the studios to Mountain Home and the tower from near Yellville to Gassville. The group of stations added KBOD at the end of 2012. Also in 2012, the Knights and Wards bought out the Earls couple. Sue Knight died in Feb. 2020 and, and Bob Knight passed away in Oct. 2021.
KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot will be broadcasting live during the celebration, and candles will be blown out at noon.
