Tuesday is a big day for KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot as we celebrate our 70th anniversary. KTLO-AM first signed on the air in 1953. The last three letters of KTLO stand for “Twin Lakes of the Ozarks.”

A lot has happened in 70 years, especially when it comes to technology. Co-owner Danny Ward says news has been a huge part of the station’s success over the years and the way it’s delivered has changed considerably.

The other co-owner, Heather Loftis, is following in her parents’ footsteps. Bob and Sue Knight purchased the station, along with Doctors John and Robert Ahrens, in 1975. Loftis says she got started working at the station at a young age.

She says the radio stations provided employment for many family members, although not all of them lasted long.

We will hear more from the station owners in our news on Monday.

The 70th anniversary celebration is scheduled for Tuesday from 10-2 at the Vada Sheid Community Development Center on the campus of Arkansas State University Mountain Home.

The public is invited and we will be broadcasting live from the event with $770 in the treasure chest. Free hot dogs and cookies will be served along with other food samples. Every 15 minutes, someone will win a $50 gift card and drawings will be held for other prizes.
