The Arkansas State Cross Country Championships wrapped up Friday at Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort in Hot Springs, and one area runner was able to win an individual crown.
Viola freshman Missy Wilson won the Class 1A girls’ race after she crossed the line in 20:44.29. In the team standings, Rural Special finished fifth as the championship went to Kingston.
Ozark Catholic won the Class 1A boys’ championship. Rural Special was fifth, Timbo ended up sixth, and Calico Rock took 12th place. Isaac Pohlmeier won the individual crown. Riley Callahan of Timbo was the top area runner as he finished 15th in 19:00.66.
The Class 3A girls’ race ended with Episcopal Collegiate winning the team title. Salem was ninth in the team standings. Emma Akins of Mountain View crossed the line in third place in 20:44.97. Elle Williamson of Harding Academy was the best runner in the race.
The Class 3A boys’ title was captured by West Fork. Melbourne took seventh place, and Salem finished 13th. Owen Shafer of Bald Knob was the individual winner. The top area runner was Melbourne’s Shawn Wortham in 16th place in a time of 18:43.65.
