More area races develop after Wednesday’s candidate filings

Wednesday’s candidate filings resulted in the development of more area races.

The Republican primary for justice of the peace in Baxter County’s District 6 appears to have another candidate. Mark Medley filed on Wednesday for the position currently held by Rhonda “Tink” Albright. Lisa House had filed on Monday.

Baxter County had two additional filings on Wednesday. Ron Weaver will run as a Republican for District 10 constable, and Stephanie Free will run for Position 2 on the Norfork School Board.

Marion County had three additional filings on Tuesday and Wednesday. Cindy Wood Young will seek the justice of the peace position for District 3 as a Democrat, and Christopher Carter will run for the same position in District 9 as a Republican. Current Yellville-Summit School Board Vice President Jason Jones will seek reelection. No races have been developed in Fulton County.

Wednesday’s two filings in Fulton County resulted in two more races for the quorum court. Incumbent District 3 Justice of the Peace Albert “Al” Roork filed for reelection, and he’ll be challenged by John M. Jarman in the Republican primary in March. Jarman filed on Monday Scott Watkins filed for District 5 JP, and if no other Republicans file by Tuesday, he’ll face independent Zach Branscum next November.

Two races have developed for the Izard County Quorum Court. Incumbent District 3 Justice of the Peace Randy “Hank” Sherrell and challenger Samuel Guiltner filed on Wednesday. Current District 8 JP Adam Cooper is set to face off against Doug Harber. Two other incumbent JPs filed for reelection. Justin Sanders will look to keep his seat in District 1, and Richard Emmens will seek another term in District 9. Seth Engelhardt filed for JP in District 6. The Izard County Clerk’s Office did not specify party affiliations from Wednesday’s filings.

Tuesday is the deadline to file for election.
