A Saturday night fire in the Oakland area led to the discovery of a body the next morning. The unidentified male was reportedly found just north of the residence located on the property.

According to Marion County Sheriff Gregg Alexander, 911 received a call at after 8 Saturday evening from a concerned neighbor reporting an out-of-control fire at some property adjacent to Arkansas Highway 202. The fire consumed some outbuildings and several acres surrounding the buildings. Attempts to locate and contact the property owner were unsuccessful, but first responders had reason to believe the owner had been on the property.

Due to inclement weather conditions Saturday night, a search was planned for Sunday. The Oakland Volunteer Fire Department responded again around 7 that morning due to a fire flare up and subsequently located the body.

Sheriff’s office personnel responded and conducted their investigation at the scene and requested the Marion County Coroner’s Office respond to recover the body from the scene. The body will be submitted to the Medical Examiner’s Section of the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for positive identification and to determine the cause and manner of death.

The Arkansas Forestry Commission also assisted on the scene.
