Marion Co. man leads Arkansas State Police on high speed chase through Yellville

A Marion County man has been arrested after the Arkansas State Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 62 near Flippin.

According to the Arkansas State Police, a trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a black car near the Flippin Bypass in Marion County, but the driver, identified as 46-year-old Kevin Melton, never pulled over. Melton led the trooper on a pursuit through multiple residential areas in Yellville, reaching speeds of approximately 100 miles per hour.

Melton ultimately pulled into the driveway of a home and exited his vehicle where the trooper was successfully able to take him into custody. According to the report Melton appeared to be under the influence of intoxicants. The trooper found several bottles of alcohol in Melton’s vehicle along with other drug paraphernalia. Officials determined the vehicle Melton had been driving was a rental at the time of the incident.

Melton was booked into the Marion County Detention Center on charges of fleeing in a vehicle with substantial risk of death or serious injury, criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, second offense of driving while intoxicated, vehicle to be driven on right side of highway, improper lane change, improper passing, failure to signal, speeding more than 15 mph over the limit, and open container. He was released on $75,000 bond.
