The Izard County Sheriff’s Department is warning the community of a scam.

According to a release from Monday, the Izard County Sheriff’s Office states they have received several calls from citizens stating they had received a call and when they answered they heard a female screaming. Eventually, a male answered the phone and stated they were with the daughter of the person whom they called. The male said the female had an accident and needed help. One citizen reported the male told them not to call 911.

Officials state the females referenced in the phone calls are safe and have not been in an accident of any kind. The phone call is a scam and it is believed the caller is trying to gain personal information from the people called to use fraudulently. Authorities state if a call like this is received, do not give any information to the caller. It is advised to call whoever they say has been in an accident on their own phone to check on them.

If you have received a call like this and cannot get in touch with the person said to be in an accident, contact the Izard County Sheriff’s Office for assistance.
