The Mountain Home High School basketball teams had mixed results Friday as they played their second games in the Searcy Classic.
The Bomber boys began the day’s action by beating Newport 68-45. The first quarter was back and forth as it ended with the Greyhounds up by one. Mountain Home outscored Newport 20-9 in the second period and went into the locker room with a 12-point advantage. The Bombers pulled further away in the second half as they went on to win by 23.
Braiden Dewey led Mountain Home with 18 points, Rhett Gilbert scored 17, Ryder McClain had 14, and Blaine Tate added 13 points.
The Bombers improve to 5-1 on the season.
The Lady Bombers did not fare as well as they lost to Cabot 65-47. Mountain Home had the lead at the end of the opening period, but they were held to just three points the very next quarter. The Lady Panthers hit nine three-pointers in the second half to pull further away and post the 18-point win.
The Lady Bombers were led by Jayla Yonkers with 13 points, and Laykin Moore chipped in 10. Jaycie Cook had 25 points for Cabot, and AbbiGrace Cunningham finished with 14.
Mountain Home drops to 5-4 on the season. Cabot improves to 7-0.
