As a new basketball court is being constructed on the elementary playground on the Norfork School District campus, it is also going to be a memorial to one of its former students. “Taylor’s Court” will be the designation in honor of Taylor Ferretti, who died in March of last year at the age of 14.
Norfork Superintendent Chip Layne says the project was spearheaded by fifth grade teacher Brandy Sallee.

When the project is completed, the end result will be a full-size regulation basketball court with painted lines, and similar to most gymnasiums, it will have two side courts. Plans are also in the works for some benches and lighting to go with the court.
The district will assist with some of the funding. Sallee and sixth grade teacher Shelby Feeney wrote a grant asking for donations, and Yelcot Communications awarded the school the money to get started on the project. Layne says it was a plus to have Yelcot contribute to the project while working with the district on its security.
Listen:
Shortly after Ferretti’s death, the Norfork High School girls’ basketball team began playing the remainder of the 2022 season with the slogan “Take it for Taylor.” The Lady Panthers finished that season by winning the Class 1A state championship. Layne says the naming of Taylor’s Court is another good way to honor the memory of Ferretti and what she meant to the community.
Listen:
Layne says the court could possibly be ready to play on by the spring. He expects the full project to be completed during the summer.
