A Baxter County woman has been arrested on felony charges of computer fraud.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on Nov. 17, a probation officer with the district court presented documentation regarding a possible fraud involving 22-year-old Alysha Jones. Officials state it was reported Jones had been using photographs of a baby, obtained from Facebook, to obtain money, property or service with false representation.
Jones allegedly befriended the victim through social media when the victim posted baby clothes and other items for sale around Oct. 16.
It was at that time Jones informed the victim she was in the process of adopting a baby and at some point in their conversations between Oct. 16 and Nov. 15 she sent the victim pictures of the baby she was to adopt. During an interview with the victim, she stated Jones had been to her house on at least three different occasions, regarding needs for the baby. The victim stated she gave Jones money, diapers, clothes and kitchen supplies.
The victim then began to question the validity of the baby existing and started searching through Jones’ Facebook friends. One of the pictures Jones sent the victim then allegedly turned out to be posted by one of Jones’ Facebook friends. The victim reached out to the parents of the baby and learned the baby was not up for adoption and Jones had been lying about the baby the entire time in order to get money and other goods. The victim also stated in the interview she saw some items for sale on Facebook and gave them to Jones.
When authorities interviewed Jones she allegedly admitted to the scheme post-Miranda. She also stated she had lost three babies, including two this year alone.
Jones is currently being held in the Baxter County Detention Center on a $1,000 bond.
