A Baxter County man, who has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 1999, has been arrested for an alleged sexual assault that happened over 1 1/2 years ago at a local motel. The Midway man, 42-year-old Joseph David Young, is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Mountain Home police were notified in late March last year of an alleged sexual assault. The victim says Young and others were in the motel room using illegal drugs. The others left and the victim says Young removed his clothing, got on top of her and touched her inappropriately.

Police tried to get Young to come in for an interview but he refused. Several months later, while in jail on another charge, he agreed to speak with investigators about the incident, denied the allegations and agreed to a DNA swab.

In Dec. 2022, evidence from Young matched DNA collected from the victim the night of the alleged incident.

Young was incarcerated at the Wrightsville Unit of the state prison system on other charges at the time of his arrest and brought back to Baxter County.

Young is facing a felony count of sexual assault in the second degree. His bond is set at $10,000. There is also a hold placed on him from the Flippin Police Department for non-payment of fines.

Young has previous convictions from Baxter, Fulton and Clay counties and has served time in the Arkansas Department of Corrections. His previous charges include commercial burglary, residential burglary, breaking or entering, theft of property, criminal mischief, forgery, criminal trespass and drug charges.
