A Lakeview woman is facing manslaughter charges, including a Class Y count of introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another person after she allegedly gave her husband Fentanyl for pain relief. Class Y felonies are the most serious classification of crimes in Arkansas not punishable by the death penalty.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on May 20, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence in Lakeview about a possible Fentanyl overdose. Upon arrival deputies found a male subject deceased.
Deputies learned the victim’s wife, their daughter and her two toddler children lived at the residence and were home at the time of the incident. The wife, later identified as 51-year-old Jennifer Kornegay, told authorities “the victim asked for a painkiller and she gave him some Fentanyl to ease the pain.”
In the bedroom of the victim and Kornegay, deputies found pills, drugs and drug paraphernalia in plain sight and accessible to the minor children living in the home. On Kornegay’s side of the bed, deputies found a pill which had been broken into smaller pieces and believed to be the Fentanyl given to the victim. The drugs were sent to the medical examiner for further testing.
The medical examiner’s report showed the cause of death was from Fentanyl, oxycodone and methamphetamine in the victim’s body.
Kornegay then allegedly left the state and went to Texas with another man. The reports states she left behind four dogs without adequate care, and one died before they were rescued.
Kornegay is facing felony charges of manslaughter, a Class Y count of introduction of controlled substance into the body of another person, possession of a controlled substance, two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and four misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals. She was booked and released Tuesday from the Baxter County Detention Center on $75,000 bond.
