An area man was killed, and two males and a female suffered moderate injuries from a one-vehicle accident Saturday morning in Howell County. Twenty-eight-year-old Brian Powell was pronounced dead at the scene, and 20-year-old Taylor Hamby and 18-year-olds Dakota Weet and Calvin Brashers were transported to Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all four West Plains residents were traveling on Missouri Route ZZ with Hamby as the driver. They were nearly eight miles east of West Plains when Hamby lost control of her vehicle. It reportedly ran off the road in a curve, struck three fences and overturned in a field.
Powell, Hamby and Brashers were reportedly not wearing their seat belts. Powell’s death is the 40th fatality reported by Troop G this year, compared to 31 at the same time in 2022.
Hamby’s vehicle was totaled in the 4:40 a.m. accident.
