A high speed pursuit late Friday night ended when the suspect crashed and was taken into custody. The driver, 27-year-old Caleb Brady Gurley of Decatur, Alabama, along with a passenger, 29-year-old Stephanie Brett, were both taken to White River Medical Center in Batesville with non-life Threatening injuries. Gurley was later released and booked into the Stone County Detention Center.

According to Stone County Sheriff Brandon Long, a deputy attempted a traffic stop around 10 Friday night. Gurley briefly pulled to the right side of the road, but then fled in excess of 90 miles-per-hour. Deputies were joined by the Mountain View Police Department and Arkansas State Police in the pursuit.

Attempts to spike the vehicle’s tires were unsuccessful as the pursuit continued into Independence County. That is where the suspect’s vehicle left the roadway and collided with an embankment.

Gurley is facing felony charges of fleeing and aggravated assault along with misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated, driving on a suspended license, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a schedule VI controlled substance. He also has outstanding warrants.
