A Missouri angler was recently able to tie the Show-Me State’s current records for skipjack herring. Anthony Rozniak of St. Peters was fishing with his brother on the Missouri River Dec. 6 when he caught his three-pound fish. According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, that ties two previous pole-and-line records, both on the Osage River.
Missouri state record fish are recognized in two categories: pole-and-line and alternative methods. Alternative methods include trotline, throwline, limb line, bank line, jug line, gig, bow, crossbow, underwater spearfishing, snagging, snaring, grabbing or atlatl.
Rozniak’s catch is the fifth state record fish for 2023. His family plans to mount the fish for his upcoming birthday.
