The start of the new year saw area basketball teams in action Tuesday. Yellville-Summit was able to sweep host Calico Rock in girls and boys action. The Lady Panthers won with a score of 46-31 and the boys team finished with a final score of 59-45. Viola was unsuccessful on the road as they sent their girls team to Clinton. The Longhorns where defeated with a final score of 69-38. Melbourne picked up a pair of wins at home over Cave City. The boys team had a score of 61-25 with the girls team finishing with 58-42. Salem was hosted by Newport and the Greyhounds saw mixed results. The girls team won their game 57-31 and the boys fell to Newport 70-50.
