Details have been released about a murder in Harrison last month and the man who shot his father to death said it was years of physical abuse to his mother and himself that led him to pull the trigger. Michael Alexander Brewer, who is now 23, but was 22-years-old at the time of the shooting, is facing a charge of capital murder in the case. The victim was 50-year-old Shawn Brewer of Harrison.

According to the probable cause affidavit in the case, police were called to a business on Capps Road Dec. 15 for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, the younger Brewer exited the building with one hand in the air and the other holding a phone to his ear. He had blood on both hands. The victim was found lying inside the business.

During questioning, Michael Brewer said prior to the shooting, he and his father were in a physical altercation. He says his father “bounced his head off the floor a couple of times” causing him to get a bloody nose.

The younger Brewer told investigators after years of seeing his dad physically abuse his mother and abuse him, he had enough. When his dad went to the front door, Michael Brewer went to his office and got a .22 caliber hand gun, two loaded magazines and returned with the intent of killing his father.

Michael Brewer told investigators as he approached his father, he started firing the gun until his father collapsed on the floor and the gun was empty. Michael said his father was still alive and he told investigators he knew “if he didn’t finish killing him it would be worse on him and his family”, so he loaded the second magazine and shot him in the temple area, killing him.

Michael Brewer is being held in the Boone County Detention Center without bond. His jury trial for the crime is set to begin July 22.
