An arrest has been made in connection with a motorcycle accident last summer that killed a Mountain Home woman. The driver of the motorcycle, Joe Allen Deen of Mountain Home who is now 55-years-old, has been charged with negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated first offense. Killed in the crash was 53-year-old Stephanie Bay.

According to the probable cause affidavit from the Arkansas State Police, the crash happened Aug. 19 on Arkansas State Highway 341 about 3/10 of a mile north of County Road 74 when Deen’s motorcycle failed to negotiate a sharp curve.

Deen lost control of the bike to avoid a large rock in the roadway, slid off the highway and struck a road sign. Bay was a passenger on the motorcycle and was struck by the sign.

Bay was airlifted to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield where she died of her injuries. Deen was treated at Baxter Health for his injuries. While there, he submitted to a blood sample to check his blood alcohol level which was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab. The sample had a blood alcohol level of 0.09%, which is above the legal limit.

Deen is free after posting $10,000 bond.
