Three minor earthquakes have been reported in Marion County in just over a 12-hour period. All three were located near the Missouri state line just south of the Peel community, near Bull Shoals Lake. The area is about 22 miles west, northwest of Mountain Home; and 23 miles northeast of Harrison.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the first earthquake was recorded at 3:23 Thursday afternoon and was a magnitude 2.0. The second quake was at 3:45 Thursday afternoon and was a 2.5 magnitude. The third earthquake was recorded at 4:07 Friday morning and was a 2.1 magnitude.
Experts say normally, earthquakes below magnitude 3 are rarely felt. However, smaller quakes from magnitude 2.0 and higher can be felt by humans if the quake is shallow (few kilometers only) and if they are very close to its epicenter and not disturbed by ambient factors such as noise, wind, vibrations of engines, traffic, etc.
Anyone who felt the earthquakes, can let the USGS know on their website.
